We went RVing yesterday. Yes, it was our family’s “Adult Day” so I rented an RV so all of us could ride together instead of trying to caravan around the City.
By having the RV, Roger was able to participate in the day’s festivities and if he got tired, he had a bed in the back to lay down in, although, it didn’t get much use. Roger spent most of his time riding “shotgun” and co-piloting for our son, Derik.
As has been our tradition, whenever someone comes to visit, we take them on the “Hansen Tour”. Our tour may have varied a little yesterday but everyone enjoyed seeing the many sights of our desert home.
We began our tour heading North out of the City and back East to Cave Creek, AZ, home of Harold’s, The Horny Toad(a restaurant) and Chili Beer. That’s Chiles in the Beer not Beer in the Chili…. Cave Creek is a fun little community that boasts many acclaimed artists and several celebrities. There are fun little shops and the Town Dump…yes, theTown Dump…an outside shopping experience with many eclectic artifacts just waiting to be discovered. I think Mike, our brother-in-law found a couple of colorful parrots made out of metal to hang on his porch wall….he’s a BIG Jimmy Buffet fan and they will be a great compliment to his Buffet motif.
It was then off to Greasewood Flats..our favorite little venue for some good ole’ hamburgers and a beer. Greasewood is just across the road from the Four Season’s Resort (Four Star) and down off the major road. It sits in the middle of what seems to be (for those of us from Kansas) some ole’ farmer’s rundown farm-yard, complete with worn out farm equipment, a few donkey’s, peacocks and a nice little kitty cats running around to scoop up the meager offerings. It is located just below Rheta Pass and was once an old stage-coach stop. Back when, it would take a day to get from Phoenix to the pass by stage coach and this was the first stop. Nothing much has changed there from those days, I’m here to tell you. Just pull up your favorite picnic table and build you a nice fire to take off the chill. They are open 7 days a week with live country music almost every night and on the weekends, it’s quite the hoppin place.
After our lunch at Greasewood, we wandered East toward and through Tonto Verde past many very large horse ranches on our way to Fountain Hills, AZ. There, if you time it just right, you can observe the world-famous fountain that shoots over 500 ft in the air on an hourly basis. At its height, it is taller than the Washington Monument. It is quite the sight to see!
From there, we traveled to Old Downtown Scottsdale for a little bit of souvenir shopping and on home via Lincoln Drive past Camelback Mountain.
As you will see by the photos, we all had a great time and it was certainly fun to have Roger along for the ride. He did very well but I know it was a tiring day for him.
Today, Roger has been trying to re-cooperate. It may take him a day or two to get back on track.
On a different note, I continue to try and schedule another tapping appointment for Roger. I contacted Dr. Little’s office on Monday the 28th and talked with her assistant Rina. I told her that another appointment needed to be scheduled. I did not get a return call yesterday, so I am currently on hold to see if the appointment has been scheduled for the 5th of January. I live my life on the phone, on hold it seems. I also asked about the appointment with the surgeons that we were told we would have and she was going to get back to me on that as well…..so far, nothing…still on hold……..
Okay..that’s the latest and greatest. Tonight will be our last night together with the family as my sister and brother will leave tomorrow…what a fun time we’ve all had and it’s been a nice break from our day-to-day challenges here.
Following are a group of photos from the last couple of fun evenings. Dinner at Sun City Festival with my sisters, Brenda & Gigi as hosts and dinner at Mom & Dad’s with my brother Gene and his wife Lindy as hosts……and of course, Roger’s RV Christmas Tour 2009/a.k.a Roger’s Party Bus…..
