Roger was born and raised in Concordia, KS., and graduated from high school with the class of 1970. In the fall of 1973 we met on a blind date in Manhattan, KS and married in September 1974. A job opportunity took us and our daughter, Erin, then age 2, to Abilene, KS. Our son Derik was born there 3 years later. We made Abilene our home for 22 years before another job opportunity brought us to Arizona. We just celebrated our 9th year living in the Land of the Sun.
Roger is completing his 16th year as an agent for Farm Bureau Insurance in Glendale, AZ. Three years ago, we joined forces and now have our own agency located in the Arrowhead Ranch area.
Our son Derik, daughter, Erin, son-in-law, Daniel, and two grandchildren, Brayden and Madilyn live near us. My parents moved from Kansas to Arizona two years ago and also live near by. We are fortunate to have our family close for support.
Roger’s liver condition surfaced about 5 years ago with a bleeding episode that almost took his life. At that time, we really didn’t know what was going on and wasn’t given much information or direction from the doctor, unfortunately. Roger really didn’t have any more problems until 3 years ago with another bleeding episode that required emergency care, banding of the veins and 3 more days in ICU.
During that stay, we were fortunate to have a very good gastroenterologist, Dr. Joseph Fares, that provided us with good information and great care. Dr. Fares has continued as Roger’s doctor and has been pro-active in treating the many symptoms that have accompanied this illness.
Roger and I will celebrate our 35th Wedding Anniversary in September. We’ve been through many challenges throughout the 35 years as most couples and families have but none quite as challenging as this one. We know that with a lot of faith and great support, we will get through this one together too.

Hi,
My thoughts and prayers go out to you and Roger. I was diagnosed with liver disease and kidney failure on 5/30/08. I was put on the list on 5/21/09 with a MELD score of 36. I got the call to have a liver and kidney transplant on 5/27/09. Needless to say but, I had someone above looking out for me. Anyways, if you or Roger have any questions about how I handled living pre and post op, feel free to ask. I wish both of you the best and I know everything will work.

Dear Roger and Debbie,
What are you doing?
This is wonderful news indeed! I did not realize transplant was an option for you. Thrilled to learn you had a liver transplant and you are getting well. Again, this is “wonderful news.” You are truly blessed. Love the photos of you both. Your children, wow, they beautiful! You have so much to live for. Maybe some day we could together and catch up after all of these years. I really do appreciate the opportunity to write to you and send my genuine wish for your complete and full recovery.
Please know Roger, You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Blessings,
Brock
