Salt is an enemy with this disease. No salt is recommended, only what is already in the foods that you prepare. The salt makes Roger retain the fluid (ascites) that accumlates around the belly.
I read all labels very carefully and have been instructed by our nutritionist to limit Roger’s salt intake to only 1/2 tsp per day or about 2000 mg.
It’s amazing the amount of salt in everything that we pick up off the shelf. That is why we read every label and prepare most, if not all of our food with fresh vegetables, etc.
The Food Values book has again been a very helpful tool in determining the salt content in all foods both fresh and processed.
